Session Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best time for my maternity session?

Anywhere from 30-34 weeks is a great time for maternity portraits.  Anytime that you are still feeling good and we can show off the baby bump, the better!

Do I have to bring anything to wear to the session?

I have several maternity dresses that are available to borrow for any session.  I highly recommend using a maternity gown or bringing one of your own as it truly adds a bit of glamour to your portraits.

Can I bring something special like an heirloom or prop to include in the session?

Yes! I encourage my clients to bring a little something to incorporate in the session to make it unique to your family. Whether you're a huge sports buff, or a military member, I will do my best to include this in the photos.

When do newborn sessions take place?

Newborn sessions are typically scheduled between 7-12 days after they are born.  We want to do our best to capture your newborn as a newborn. At this age they are more likely to “curl up” and remain sleepy for the duration of the session. They are much more tolerant of being posed and moved around than a 3 or 4 week old. Almost all of the “sleepy newborn” shots you see here on the website were done with newborns 14 days old or younger. If your baby is older than 2 weeks, don’t worry, we can still capture beautiful photos - it may just take more effort on both ends and we may need to skip some of the poses you see here on my website.

How do I book a session when I’m not sure when baby will be born?

Once you decide to book, we will schedule a tentative session date. Once your baby is born, we will firm up the session date.

How long does a session last?

Newborn sessions take a bit more time than a traditional portrait session.  Please allow a minimum of  2-3 hours as I work entirely around your new baby and their needs. I do not rush the session, I let baby take as many breaks as needed. Baby’s comfort and safety are my number one priority.

Where does the newborn session take place?

Sessions take place in my studio located at 155 S. Montezuma Castle Hwy, Suite 11, Camp Verde, AZ 86322.

Can siblings and parents be in a few shots?

Absolutely!  I typically take parent and sibling portraits at the beginning of the session so that the rest of the session is reserved for the newborn.  This is also ideal if you have young siblings that may want to leave with another adult to prevent boredom.
